Buying a house is the first step of building a home. You get that sense of exhilaration thatcomes from personalizing your space, and adding your individuality to it. It is not an easy process, and certainly not quick. Everything needs to be done, and it needs to be done right – step by step.
While repairing the house, people often make certain common mistakes. We are listing down these mistakes so you can avoid them all:
1. HANDING IT OVER TO THE BUILDER
Home builders are there to make your dream house a reality. They are not there to design the house for you. Lay down your needs on a paper; write down if there are any walls to erect or structures to be made.
Mark your preferences in terms of material and color choices. Decide if you want a classy dining room or a funky dine-in area. You can always ask the home builder about his opinions or what-goes-with-what. However, make the final decision as per your personal taste.
2. CONCENTRATING ON THE MINOR DETAILS; LEAVING OUT THE MAJOR ONES
People who stress over every minor detail usually miss the major ones.
In order to not miss any detail, whether small or big, ask the home builder to provide you with a complete plan. Go over it in your free time and decide on things one by one. It is hard to miss anything if everything has been compiled in a single file. Try to organize it room by room, starting with major repairs them proceeding to minor fixes.
3. FORGET ABOUT THE BUILT IN STORAGE
Do you want wardrobes in your bedroom, storage cupboards in the kitchen, or cabinets for your toiletries? Do you want them all as built-in spaces? Then do not forget to mention them and decide on details so everything is built properly.
First time home buyers often make this mistake; do not let yourself do the same.
4. FLOODING THE DETAILS
So you want two extra cupboards in the kitchen? Think about subtracting something too. What you see while repairing is not how your house will look like after the repairs are done. If you are adding too many new features, try subtracting some as well to make it less cluttered.
5. STRESSING OVER DELAYS
When starting the repairs, keep in mind that even though you will want to work on each unit separately, your house stands as a single unit. This means that a certain delay in one repair can further delay the others. Be ready for delays such as plumbing, electricity and other repairs.
Giving enough time and consideration to the repairs will allow you to set up a comfortable living space. Do not rush; let it take time.
